October 15, 2016 @ 7:30 pm$22
The St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra and conductor Kris Tjornehoj welcome Metro Brass, one of the most exciting groups in the Twin Cities, with Ivan Konev, piano. In a Boston Pops-style spirit, the music across Broadway, film, television combined with the SCVSO’s light concert repertoire will make this a concert of forces.
Saturday evening, October 15, 7:30 p.m. celebrate the collaboration of versatile musicians/entertainers as they present Tribute of John Williams. Compelling sounds of brass and orchestra will sound with favorites like When You Wish Upon a Star and Over the Rainbow. The popular television music from Game of Thrones plus James Bond medleys will delight audiences of all ages.
Ivan Konev will share his interpretation of The Man I Love, by George Gershwin for piano with orchestra. All musicians combine for the Tribute to John Williams with rich, lavish brass sounds. Memories will be rekindled with iconic medleys from Porgy and Bess, Chess, and West Side Story. The 1927 Hoagy Carmichael classic Stardust will warm hearts with the SCVSO, Ivan Konev and Metro Brass.
The Metro Brass is a 12-member group of talented musicians from Minneapolis/St. Paul led by composer/arranger/trumpet player Keith Thompson from Woodbury, MN. This group performed for the 2015 River Fest Celebration in Hudson, WI and hosts numerous concerts annually.
Ivan Konev hails from the Ukraine, with studies from the Russian Conservatory earning a Doctorate in Music from University of Minnesota. He performs throughout the world and teaches piano at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. His St. Croix Piano Trio with Natalia Moiseeva (violin) and Tanya Remenikova (cello) performed at the Phipps Center for the Arts last year on the Music Series.
