Christmas Extravaganza at The Phipps

The St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra presents:  A Christmas Extravaganza.  Join conductor Kris Tjornehoj in this Boston Pops style Christmas array of music.   With works including Leroy Anderson's A Christmas Festival, Buglers Holiday, and Sleigh Ride, a John Rutter arrangement of Go, Tell It On The Mountain, and original settings of holiday selections by Dana Mathewson including Still, Still, Still, Twelve Days After Christmas, and This Little Child.   The evening will hark to Broadway’s golden age of song.

This is the debut of the SCVSO at the Phipps Center, and will feature guest vocal artists Jen Burleigh Bentz, soprano, and Tim Swanson, baritone, plus the quartet From the Heart.  Music, magical touches, and spirited songs will make this an evening to remember.  Jen has performed from the Guthrie to Broadway.  She has a personality that shines with a wide-range of style and vocal abilities.   Her rendition of Santa Baby is delightful.   Tim may be an accomplished pilot, yet his voice is velvet in his interpretation of O Holy Night.

The From the Heart quartet is made up of talented musicians that perform throughout the Twin City region.   Vocalists Melissa O’Neill (soprano), and Tom Witry (baritone), with Martha Mathewson (piano), and Dana Mathewson (woodwinds), collaborates in custom-designed programs from the Great American Songbook in a fresh and tasteful style.

Director Kris Tjornehoj serves as the conductor and artistic director for the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra as she has for over 20 years, creating programs of interest to people of all ages.   She has served as a guest conductor both domestic and abroad, and leads tours internationally for performing musical groups.
