Conductor Kris Tjornehoj will lead the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra with the Shepherd Choir in concert Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Afton.
The Holiday Extravaganza features collaborations between choir and orchestra, guest soloists, and a sing-along for audience members. The program will include All is Well, Still, Still, Still, Go Tell it on the Mountain, The First Noel, and One Amazing Night and more. This concert is free and open to the public with donations requested to the SCVSO. There will be a reception of holiday cookies following the event.
The Shepherd of the Valley Choir is in its 30th season under the direction of Tjornehoj. This group performs weekly and presents collaborative concerts in December (SCVSO) and April (Sheldon Theatre Brass Band).
Tjornehoj received her degree in music from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, with a Master’s Degree and Ph.D. earned from the University of Minnesota. She has led the SCVSO in a variety of concerts throughout the valley featuring guest artists from around the world, including Irish tenor Anthony Kearns (November, 2015). Her passion for supporting the creation of new music has resulted in over 15 commissions. Tjornehoj is a professor at UW-River Falls where she leads the Symphony Band, teaches music education related courses, and serves in leadership as the chair of the music department. This spring she will lead a world music class in Edinburgh, London and Paris. Her newly formed Three Rivers Concert Band will perform and tour Budapest, Vienna and Prague in June, 2016.
